Rethinking clean energy: not just creating new, but making existing systems better
In the race toward net-zero, a new generation of startups is stepping in to fix what’s been overlooked: ageing infrastructure, complex bureaucracy, energy waste, and outdated systems that hold back real progress. Four teams - Reblade, MarkeDroid, Soldera, and Rexplorer - are tackling very different parts of the energy puzzle, but they share a common mission: making renewable energy more effective, scalable, and accessible.

They’re all part of the Beamline, Sparkup, and BIA Energy Batch - and each one is building solutions that quietly power the clean energy future.

MarkeDroid

Grid congestion and centralisation are slowing down the renewable transition - and that’s exactly where MarkeDroid steps in. Their plug-and-play energy management and trading system makes decentralised energy smart, profitable, and adaptable.

Whether it’s solar on your roof or batteries in your building, MarkeDroid’s AI-driven platform optimises usage and opens up access to virtual energy markets. That means more efficiency, better returns, and lower barriers to participation.

They’ve drawn support from energy leaders like Taavi Madiberk and Marko Virkebau, as well as partners across 12 EU countries. And while policy and public understanding remain challenges, MarkeDroid is turning complexity into clarity - and turning everyday infrastructure into active players in the energy grid.

Reblade

The idea behind Reblade was born from a desire for freedom - the kind you get from building something with real impact and doing it with people you trust. That mindset led to a drone-based repair system for wind turbines that’s not only smart but fast.

Reblade’s fully automated flying robot can repair wind turbine blades up to 10 times faster than the current manual process, which still relies heavily on rope-access specialists. By automating maintenance, they’re solving one of the biggest bottlenecks in wind energy: keeping up with the pace of new installations.

Their system increases turbine uptime, lowers CO2 emissions by 447 metric tons per repair, and reduces dependency on an increasingly scarce technician workforce - all while supporting Europe’s shift toward clean, resilient energy.

As the Reblade team puts it, you can’t scale wind energy without scalable maintenance. They’re making that possible.
Soldera

Renewable energy producers often leave money on the table. That’s because navigating the bureaucracy of Guarantees of Origin (GOs) and Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) is time-consuming, confusing, and often handled manually, if at all.

Soldera fixes that with AI. Their software automates the entire GO and REC process - from certification to sale - eliminating 95% of the administrative burden. More importantly, it helps producers maximise revenue, adding a key source of income to keep their operations sustainable.

Because it’s built as a commission-based service, Soldera’s interests are aligned with its users- it only succeeds when they do. That incentive structure, combined with its AI capabilities, helps small and large producers alike get better prices, reduce overhead, and access markets they’d otherwise miss.

Rexplorer

Rexplorer started during the energy crisis, when rising electricity and gas prices pushed homeowners to look for solar. The team, with its strong software background, stepped in to automate the design and sales process.

Since then, Rexplorer has evolved into a more powerful tool - one focused on energy retrofits and 3D building modelling. With 75% of EU buildings needing upgrades to meet climate goals, Rexplorer’s software helps property owners plan cost-effective, emissions-free solutions.

By combining rooftop solar and heat pump systems, their platform shows how electrification can replace fossil fuels - often at a lower cost. Their models suggest 40% savings for three-quarters of the year, with green electricity tariffs covering the rest.

Each of these startups, Reblade, MarkeDroid, Soldera, and Rexplorer, is doing something different, but they all share the same mindset: the belief that renewable energy should be simpler, smarter, and accessible to more people.

Whether it’s automating repairs, managing energy better, unlocking hidden income, or upgrading the places we live and work - they’re proving that innovation doesn’t have to be flashy to make a real impact. It just has to work, and be built by people who care enough to solve hard problems well.

As the energy transition continues, it’s clear that big change will come from both new ideas and the tools that support them. The Beamline, Sparkup, and BIA Energy Accelerator is giving these founders a boost as they are helping to shape the future of how we power the world.

So the next time someone tells you the energy problem is too big or too complex - just remember: there’s a drone flying to fix a turbine, a system trading your excess energy, an AI negotiating better deals for your clean power, and a 3D model of your house helping you go fossil-free.

That future isn’t far off. It’s already being built - one smart idea at a time.
